We believe that we are called to connect all people to God through Christ and to guide them on their journey of faith.
- We believe that God is our Creator and maker of heaven and earth, that His Son, Jesus Christ, is our Lord and Savior and that the Holy Spirit is Christ at work in us and through us and in our world.
- We believe that, through Christ, each person is loved and forgiven and claimed as a child of God.
- We believe that God works through spiritually active people to nurture and support the community at large; therefore, we work to develop stronger and healthier relationships among all people.
- We believe that worship is essential and strive to make it a part of everyday life.
- We are a faithful community that intentionally draws people in to be nurtured, challenged, prepared, and sent out to serve.
- We encourage people to grow in their relationship with God, and in discipleship, stewardship and service.
- We trust in God for wisdom, courage and direction.
St. Stephens Presbyterian Church began in 1953. North Highlands was a growing community at the time, with new homes and businesses being established in the area surrounding McClellan Air Force Base. The Rev. Stuart Pratt let the efforts to establish the church on Stephen Drive. The church was officially dedicated by the Sacramento Presbytery with 38 Charter Members on December 27, 1953. Many of the original charter members are still active in the church today. During the next 30 years the church grew and flourished. There were worship services, church school classes, and many community activities.
In the 1980’s the character of North Highlands was changing. The nearby community of Antelope was attracting the young families. In order to provide the church with growth potential, the decision was made to sell the property on Stephen Drive and purchase land in Antelope. The last service held at the Stephen Drive location was on October 6, 1991.
Current worship services are held at Center High School, with a church office located on Bolivar Avenue. The move to Antelope has rejuvenated the congregation, with church attendance slowly increasing. Worship, future plans, and church activities under the leadership of Rev. Margaret E. Cross continue to build for the future of St. Stephens Presbyterian Church and promise another very active 50 years.
