On this site you will find descriptions of our celebration, our learning, and our service. You will be introduced to the people and leaders of our church...and we hope you will find your place in this amazing community. Please enjoy your visit!
Something new on Sundays!
Are you i n the first through sixth grades? Do you know someone who is? Let’s get the word out!! What is the word??? Why, the word is “Adventure”!! We are going to have Bible Adventures!! These adventures are going to happen during worship time on every other Sunday, starting on May 6th. Kristin Willson is leading this journey through the Bible. In each adventure there is a key verse which focuses on the life lesson of the reading. The story itself is taken directly from the New Living Translation and is an accurate and easy-to-understand translation of God’s word. So, plan to come at the regular worship time of 10:30. After the Children’s Time in the service, meet with Kristin for this time of learning and fun. Each session will conclude at the end of worship. These sessions are planned for every other Sunday so all of you will have a chance to worship with your St. Stephens friends and family on the alternate weeks. Just a reminder….you can look in the calendar section of the bulletin to check the date of the next Adventure. See you there!
Vacation Bible School 2012
Vacation Bible School will take place June 20th through June 24th. It will once again be held on Ladd Court. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to share your talents for this ministry thus far. There are still a couple of positions that need to be filled including a teacher, and an assistant teacher for our preschool group, worship leader, publicity and a photographer. I will have fliers available during the months of May and June so that you can invite any children that you know who would benefit from this amazing program. Please direct your questions regarding VBS to Lyn Bagelmann.
Donations for Vacation Bible School
Once again this year we will be holding daily prize drawings for our VBS participants. This year’s theme is “Operation Overboard”. Items that could be donated include things related to the beach, the ocean, fishing, the Little Mermaid or other under the sea themed movies, games, etc., binoculars, disposable cameras, water bottles, hats, or related items. The kids have looked forward to this each night during our closing activities the last six years so we really want to continue it this year. Finally, we will once again be providing a T-shirt for each participant. Rather than send people to various Wal Marts, Targets, etc., we are once again ordering the blank shirts from a local screen printer. (We will put the VBS logo on ourselves) The cost per shirt is $6.00. If you would like to make a monetary donation to support any part of VBS, simply note where you would like it to be directed on you check or envelope. Additionally, we are in need of two shade structures that can be used for the entire week as well as 3 Igloo-type water coolers (that dispense water). Please let Lyn know if you can help out with this (334-1546 or lbagelmann@sbcglobal.net). This program could not happen without the incredible support of our congregation – Thank you!!!!!

Recycle your used cell phones! St. Stephens is selected as drop off site for Cell Phones for Soldiers for Antelope and North Highlands.
Praise God our troops have come home from Iraq, but many of our troops remain deployed in Afghanistan and other places far from home. For our troops serving overseas, making a call home is a costly rarity for many military professionals. St. Stephens is in its third year supporting Cell Phones for Soldiers, which helps troops from each branch of the U.S. military call home for free. Check out their website for more information about this wonderful program at http://cellphonesforsoldiers.com. To contribute, just drop your equipment in the box at the church office, or the mail slot, or just hand them to Bess Hadley at church on Sunday. Don’t forget to ask your friends, relatives, and neighbors too! Cash donations are also accepted. For more information about this mission, contact Bess at (916) 331-6851.

Green Stewardship program is collected monthly
Green Stewardship 2012, our new commitment to recycling, is going well. February’s collection totaled $26.25. St. Stephens kept nearly 45 pounds of waste out of the landfill and put it back into use. Your recyclables can be brought to church the third Sunday each month. March’s scheduled collection will be May 20.
Special arrangements for the other Sundays or home pick-up can be arranged in advance. Members are encouraged to bring in the following recyclables: CRV (CA Redemption Value) bottles and cans; Scrap aluminum, copper, brass, iron, tin, insulated wire and stainless steel; All glass bottles and jars -- Ragu, jam, salad dressing, wine, etc. Any color!; Plastic containers with the CA Recycling logo on their label; TVs and computer monitors; Car wheels, batteries, and radiators. Milk jugs, juice, & other beverage containers are OK, but not dish soap & shampoo bottles.
Contact Robin Thompson at (916) 786-3875 for pick-up or information. And keep up the good work!

North Highlands Food Ministry mission continues
The Food Closet continues to be our hands-on service to our community, feeding hundreds of local citizens each week. They always need Cup of Noodles, Top Ramen, and canned meals or chili, which is provided to our homeless neighbors, who can then get hot water from local stores and restaurants. In addition, they are currently in need of 25 lb. bags of rice and oatmeal, jarred baby food, and size 3 and 4 diapers. They also request travel-sized toiletries, large and extra large T-shirts and socks for both men and women. Clean used shopping bags are always needed. For more information, please contact Alice Taylor at (916) 331-0345.
